Where it all began
Founded in Hampton Roads, Virginia — 2005
Trading Phones was founded in 2005 in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia with a simple mission: give everyday people access to quality phones, honest advice, and flexible options — without the runaround you'd get at a big-box carrier store.
From day one, we focused on what the major carriers couldn't offer: personalized service, real expertise, and a willingness to work with every customer's budget. Whether someone needed a no-contract plan, wanted to trade in an old device, or needed a repair, we were there.
Word spread quickly. Customers came back — and brought their families. That loyalty became the foundation of everything we've built since.

From Hampton Roads to Southern Maryland
Over the years, Trading Phones grew alongside the communities we served. We expanded our device inventory, added financing options, and deepened our carrier relationships — always staying ahead of what customers actually needed.
As the wireless industry evolved, so did we. We became experts in device diagnostics, software upgrades, and trade-in valuations. We partnered with leading financing providers like Progressive Leasing and Acima so that no-credit-needed options were always on the table.
Eventually, the opportunity arose to bring that same trusted experience to Southern Maryland. We opened our California, MD location and quickly became a go-to resource for the community — the same way we had in Virginia.
